I may not have a physical store, but...

I love when I go into small stores and restaurants where they have their "first dollar" that they ever earned framed on the wall. It seems like a good omen that the owners were not only excited to start their business, but that they remember when they first started out and appreciate it. Obviously, I don't have an actual store where I could do this, but I can tell you that I remember the first time I sold a canvas (to someone I didn't know, no less!):

My shop had been open for a few months, although I was only half-heartedly working on designs and pieces because I wasn't sure that anyone would want anything that I would make. (True story, and if you have your own Etsy shop, you possibly know what I'm saying.) Because the thing with Etsy is that there are so many products and so many shops. Seriously. I could spend hours on there looking at everything from funny cat houses to handbags to jewelry. BUT, I figured "what the heck" and listed the few canvases that I had completed and just sort of waited. And waited. And waited. At first I didn't  bother with tons of social media. I sorta figured that if someone did manage to stumble on my stuff and want to buy it, then that would be awesome, but since I only get to work on my stuff part time (the rest of the time I'm chasing around a two-year-old and shuffling a five-year-old to and from school, not to mention the other stuff that has to get done when you are a stay-at-home-mom), I sort of felt, "if it happens, it happens."

And then it happened!

The morning that my daughter was scheduled to have her tonsils removed, I got up extra early and heard the Etsy app on my phone make that "cha-ching" noise and it was so exciting!!! (Although at first, I had no idea what the noise meant, and in my own defense, I hadn't had my coffee yet.) But there it was - my first sale, and my first dollar(s)!

From there things have steadily picked up. I do more on social media now (Facebook and Instagram, mostly), and as you've probably noticed, I have this nifty website now. I may not have a physical place to hang my first dollar, but I definitely remember the excitement that I felt, and I certainly appreciate every single sale since! Heck, I get excited just seeing that people are even looking at stuff in my shop! So, to ALL of you... Thank you!
